Group & Individual Lessons

We come to your location with everything needed for the lesson and leave you with after-lesson materials so you can continue your learning on your own.

We offer group lessons with a minimum of 4 people. We have accommodated large groups of 20+. Regardless of your group size, you'll receive thoughtful instruction and hands-on coaching while learning Mahjong through game play.

We also offer individual instruction if you have some experience and would like additional focus on a specific area.

Intro To Mahjong(2.5 hours)

Learn what Mahjong is all about

In this fun, relaxed intro lesson, you and your friends will get hands-on with the tiles, learn how to read the National Mah Jongg League game card, and play your first real (abbreviated!) game together. No experience needed, and no need to bring a thing. I bring everything to play - you bring the curiosity.


By the end of the lesson, you'll understand the basics and have a feel for the game. Most groups find that one lesson leaves them hungry for more. That's why I recommend pairing this class with my Intro to Mahjong Game Play lesson, where we take everything you've learned and put it into full, real-game practice. Together, the two lessons give you and your group the confidence to play on your own, and enjoy every minute of it.

Intro To Mahjong Game Play (2.5 hours) 

Learn your way around the Mahjong Table

You've learned the tiles and how to decipher the National Mah Jongg League playing card, and now it's time to really play.

 

This is where everything clicks. In this immersive lession, you and your group will move beyond the basics and into the full rhythm of a real game, building tile walls, passing tiles during the Charleston, game play, and yes, calling MAHJONG!

 

We'll dig deeper into strategy and build the kind of confidence that comes from actually playing, not just practicing.


This lesson is designed to follow the Intro to Mahjong lesson and is the moment most students say "now I get it." By the end, you and your group will be ready to set up your own table, deal your own tiles, and play a complete game together, independently and with confidence.

The Complete Mahjong Beginner Experience (5 hours)

The best way to learn American Mahjong isn't one lesson — it's two. This two-lesson bundle is designed to take you and your group from complete beginner to confident, independent player in the most fun way possible.
You'll receive full instruction from Intro to Mahjong and Mahjong Game Play - together, these two 2.5-hour lessons give your group the complete picture. Not just the rules, but the rhythm, the strategy, and the confidence to sit down at any table and play.

 

Book the bundle on 2 different days or book the lessons back-to-back with an hour food break in between and make it a Mahjong Day! Lesson price is per person. Minimum of 4 people, no max. Assistant instructors will be brought in for larger groups.

Booking & Payment Policy:

For private group lessons, your date is not confirmed until the minimum of 4 participants have registered and paid individually. All payments are non-refundable.Need to reschedule? No problem — just give me at least 48 hours notice and I'll do my best to find a new date that works for your group. Cancellations with less than 48 hours notice are not eligible for rescheduling or credit. Those tiles wait for no one!In the unlikely event that I need to cancel, you'll receive a full reschedule or refund — always.
